Today at Renaissance International School we held a Human Library event as part of our World Language and Literature celebrations.

A Human Library is where individuals volunteer as human ‘books’ and participants in the event can ‘read’ the book – meaning they have a conversation with the volunteer and share in a dialogue about that individual’s experience. This year’s theme was Stories of Kindness, Acceptance and Belonging.

All students from Years 7 to 12 were invited to come and ‘read’ the ‘books’ to discover the story behind the person.

Each book was ‘read’ for 20 minutes followed by a 5-10 minute Q & A session.

The students were very interested to read these stories which were presented by both staff and outside community members, and learned much about how kindness, acceptance and belonging can make a difference in someone’s life.
