Primary

Renaissance International School Saigon is a candidate school for the PYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.

The Primary School is comprised of Lower and Upper Primary. Lower Primary is defined as Years 1-3 and Upper Primary Years 4-6.

All students in the Primary School engage in our transdisciplinary Programme of Inquiry

Programme of inquiry

Curriculum overview

There are six units, and each last six weeks long. Students learn about real-world problems that move beyond the barriers of stand-alone subject learning. However, there are times when specific skills require direct teaching and learning; teachers recognise this and differentiate accordingly. Where teachers deem necessary, there may be subject-specific stand-alone units in Music, Physical Education, Phonics and Mathematics; however, any subject-specific stand-alone is still inquiry-based and connected to the real world.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment in Primary is continuous and cumulative and runs on a 1-6 scale. Students are provided with various opportunities to demonstrate an understanding that aligns with their learning style and needs. Assessment For Learning are diagnostics run by teachers to assess current levels of knowledge. Assessment As Learning is where teachers use their diagnostic data to develop learning experiences that scaffold cognition and comprehension. Assessments of Learning are summative tasks which illustrate the culmination of learning. Teachers in lower primary start modelling the co-construction of rubrics and assessment tools that explicitly state how students can achieve their best in developmentally appropriate language. In Upper Primary, students further develop their understanding of assessment through frequent student-teacher conferences, co-construction of rubrics, peer assessment, self-assessment and continuous reflection.
